Pipe Flange helps to connect piping components in a piping system with the use of bolted connections and gaskets. There are number of flanges such as Weld neck flanges, blind flanges, slip on flanges, threaded flanges and lap joint flanges. These types of connections allows for ease of disassembly and separation for repair. These flanges are available in various standards and specifications such as ANSI B16.5/ASME B16.5. They use in various applications such as industrial and commercial applications available in variety of styles and pressure classes. It varies from class 150 to 2500 flange.
There are various types of Pipe Flange, let’s read it:
Weld Neck Flange
Weld Neck Flange is considered to connect a buttweld connection to the pipe or equipment. It is popular in using on pressure vessels for creating man-holes etc. It works amazingly under variety of pressure and temperature conditions.
Slip On Flange
Slip on Flange is planned to slip over the end of pipe. It helps in offering easy positioning before welding. Both sides of the pipe inside and outside are welded on the slip on flange. The pipe is generally inserted inside the slip on flange and leaves only the gap according to the pipe thickness.
Lap Joint Flange
Lap Joint Flange consists of both a stub end and a flange. The stub end is inserted over the flange and is welded to pipe. It is used where non- alignment create problem. This arrangement helps in flange alignment. Lap Joint flange looks similar as slip on flange and the only difference is that lap joint flange has round edges on the back side and a flat face. In this type of flange, stub end is directly contact with the fluid that gets welded to the pipe.
Threaded Flange
Threaded Flange is called screwed flange that will be helpful when welding is not an option. It is commonly used on low pressure applications and smaller pipes.
Blind Flange
A blind flange is a solid flange that is used to close the end of pipe, valves or equipment. It comes in both as raised face and flat face.
